GIA Sheds Light on Fluorescence

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will now include additional information explaining and describing ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence and its properties in every GIA Diamond Grading Report and Diamond Dossier that carries a diamond fluorescence description of 'medium' or stronger.
A separate four-color insert addresses the most frequently asked questions about fluorescence, explains its properties in easy-to-understand terms and includes comparison images of diamonds in both natural and UV light to illustrate varying intensities of fluorescence.

NY Couple Tries to Smuggle $3M in Jewels into Switzerland

Swiss authorities caught a couple from New York trying to smuggle $3.1 million worth of jewelry into Switzerland. When the jewels were found, the couple said they were the woman's personal possessions and estimated their value at $1.1 million. A probe showed the value to be three times higher and that the man was a jewelry and diamond trader.

in May, 2009 Sotheby’s Geneva Sale Features a Rare 7ct Blue Diamond from Cullinan

Sotheby’s will auction a rare fancy vivid blue, IF diamond from the Cullinan Mine at its upcoming Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale in May. The 7.03-carat diamond was cut from a 26.58-carat rough stone mined by Petra Diamonds at Cullinan in South Africa. Sotheby's presale estimate for the diamond is between $5.8 million and $8.5 million.
